‘Cars 3’ Laps ‘Wonder Woman’ For a First Place Finish.
The weekend box office results are in! ‘Cars 3’ managed to knock ‘Wonder Woman’ off the top spot for the first time since it’s release. Though, the $53,547,000 debut for ‘Cars 3’ marked the lowest opening weekend result yet for the franchise. ‘Wonder Woman’ held on tight only dropping 30% in its third week in release with $40,775,000. ‘All Eyez On Me’ the Tupac Shakur biopic landed in third with an impressive $27,050,000 debut. The films opening weekend came in significantly lower than 2015’s ‘Straight Outta Compton‘ in which Shakur was also depicted. Potentially due to the fact that Straight Outta Compton was generally better received by critics boasting an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes vs ‘All Eyez On Me’s 24% score. ‘The Mummy’ dropped two spots to fourth place in its second weekend adding an additional $13,916,010 to its coffers. Bringing its worldwide total to over $295 million. ’47 Meters Down’ rounded out the top 5 bringing in $11,500,000 during its initial frame.
