According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin will participate in next month’s USA Basketball minicamp in Las Vegas and plans to play on the 2016 Olympic team in Rio de Janeiro.
Griffin was forced to withdraw from last year’s Team USA training camp for the FIBA World Cup because he was advised by doctors to give a back injury more time to heal.
Griffin was also forced to withdraw from the 2012 team that competed in the Summer Olympics in London after he stepped on the foot of Washington Wizards guard John Wall during a workout and tore the meniscus in his left knee.
Until now, a lot has kept Griffin from representing his country at the summer games, let’s hope that everything falls into place this time around. The reality is that Blake Griffin would be pure terror in the international game. His passing would also allow him to fit well with the other players on the roster, and most foreign teams simply wouldn’t be used to his combination of size and speed, and the shorter three point line would allow him to knock down deep balls with relative consistency.
It was also reported Friday that Carmelo Anthony will attend the minicamp, but won’t fully participate due to recovery from knee surgery.
