Have you ever heard an artist sing and think that they’d make great music for Issa Rae’s Insecure and Superfly? Ok, it’s just me? Am I the only one that thinks that way? Anyway, that’s how I feel about bLAck pARty. To be honest, that’s also how I feel about Childish Gambino’s latest work. That is why it doesn’t surprise me when I hear that bLAck pARty recently released a two-pack via Childish Gambino’s label, Wolf + Rothstein / RCA Records. bLAck pARty’s sound is a homemade gumbo of the psychedelic sounds that many people associate with the 70s, today’s R&B and the warmth of genuine soul music. His latest effort, Birds & Bees, puts all of these elements on full display along with contributions from Gwen Bunn.
“Birds & Bees is a nod to our basic urges, and perfectly sums up the full spectrum of romance that you’ll find in this pair of songs. There’s a hint to my next album in there if you know where to look. This version of Lay is the purest iteration of the record that eventually was featured on my album Endless Summer — it’s the original demo that Mac of Fisticuffs and I made several years back,” bLAck pARty said about the bundle.
“It’s been given new life by a very special friend, keep your ears open for it on the final season of my favorite show.”
Check out the two-pack before one or both of these songs end up on bLAck pARty’s show that I would bet is…….Insecure.
