Big Sean will release his sixth studio album, Better Me Than You, on Friday, August 9.
“It’s been a journey [and] [I] cant wait to share with you all,” he wrote on Instagram.
The project is led by his previously released singles, “Precision” and “Clarity.” More recently, fans of the Detroit native woke up to learn that much of the music for the project had been leaked on line. The 14-track collection that hit the internet early was filled with unfinished tracks, but it did offer a sneak peak at contributions from Charlie Wilson, Brent Faiyaz and Nas. To combat the recent leaks, Big Sean unleashed a single called “Yes” on Friday, July 19.
“I’m [going to] just start [dropping] this new music before they leak it all,” he added.
A lot has changed since Big Sean delivered his fifth studio album, Detroit II, in 2020. Most notably, he and Jhene Aiko welcome their first son, Noah Hasani, in 2022. He’s also continued to battle a heart condition that he once thought would require surgery. As it pertains to music, he’s appeared on Ellie Goulding’s Higher Than Heaven, DJ Khaled’s Khaled Khaled and Megan Thee Stallion’s Good News.
Next month, Big Sean will put focus back on his solo work as he prepares to deliver his first album in three years. Before it arrives, check out “Yes” below.
