If you’re unfamiliar with Dreamville’s Ari Lennox, you should get familiar very soon because she could be the next big thing in R&B. Back in 2015, the Washington, D.C. native made her first appearance on a Dreamville project when she collaborated with Omen on Elephant Eyes. Five months later, Lennox officially signed with J. Cole’s imprint and appeared on Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers II. A year later, she dropped her first project on Dreamville. The seven-track project, Pho, received great reviews and set up the singer to be the opening act for her boss, J. Cole, on his 4 Your Eyes Only Tour in 2017. Today, Ari Lennox jumped back out to drop off a song called “Whipped Cream”.
As Lennox describes it, “Whipped Cream’ is my little baby that expresses how I feel about an ex that I’m still not over.” Like most of her music, Lennox’s newest effort is “modern, relaxed, turned up soul reminiscent of the beautiful music from the 70’s.” The nearly five minute track features the Ari Lennox singing, “I’ve been in my feels/ I’ve been stackin’ bills/Online shoppin’ and robbin’ my chance of survivin’/I’m late on rent, what was I thinkin’?/I’m gon’ go to the gym, squat real low for a man.”
