Singer-songwriter extraordinaire Ari Lennox has issued a statement after being arrested at an airport in Amsterdam last week. The Dreamville signee wrote that the experience was “painful” and told fans that she’s “not ok.”
“My only regret is my reaction to the racism and discrimination I experienced. I would like to explain what happened to me, but KLM has made it clear that they never cared to hear it from jump. It’s painful being silenced like this. It’s painful what I went through. I’m not ok,” she tweeted.
On November 29, the Washington, D.C. issued a number of alarming tweets. She indicated that she was being arrested at the Amsterdam Schiphol airport after reacting to a person who was racially profiling her. However, she was unable to go into more detail.
“F—- Amsterdam security. They hate black people,” she wrote.
“They’re arresting me. I’m being arrested in Amsterdam for reacting to a woman racially profiling me.”
Hours after issuing a series of tweets, officials at the Amsterdam Schiphol airport attempted to refute Ari Lennox’s account of what took place. Dutch military police told Reuters that she was aggressive and “wouldn’t calm down.” However, military police did not provide further evidence corroborating their claims.
“Our unit found a woman full of emotions, that wouldn’t calm down,” spokesman Robert van Kapel told Retuers.
“That’s why she had to be taken into custody.”
At this time, it is unclear if Ari Lennox has returned to the United States following the ordeal. With that said, she did inform her supporters that she is “safe.”
