Andy Serkis might be wearing a bow tie the next time we see him on the big screen. According to Deadline, the actor is in talks to join Matt Reeves’ The Batman as Bruce Wayne’s caretaker and butler, Alfred Pennyworth.
Serkis is most famous for his motion-capture work and first gained public praise for his incredible turn as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings franchise. He then garnered even more praise for starring in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy as Caesar, the leader of the ape nation. If he signs on for The Batman, it’d be somewhat of a reunion as Matt Reeves directed the second two films in the Apes trilogy.
Serkis would also be joining an absolutely stacked cast if he signs on for The Batman. He’d star alongside Robert Pattinson and Jeffrey Wright as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon, respectively. I’m not sure what kind of interaction he’d have with the caped crusader’s rogues gallery but, Paul Dano was cast as The Riddler last month. And, Colin Farrell was recently announced to be in final talks to join the film as the Penguin. Zoë Kravitz is also slated to appear as Selin Kyle/Catwoman.
The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
