Andre the Giant, a staple in wrestling history, will be receiving a well deserved biopic. Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell are teaming up with Lion Forge Comics to bring the film to fruition. The trio will be using a 2015 biographical novel, “Andre the Giant: Closer To Heaven”, to write the script. Robin Christensen-Roussimoff, the daughter of the legend will be a close consultant for the film, making sure Steindorff and Russell preserves her fathers legacy.
“Andre the Giant rode the wave of the rise of wrestling in America, while suffering from the painful health condition of gigantism – there’s an Elephant Man story here,” Steindorff said.
Andre started wrestling in Paris at the young age of 17, weighed in at over 500 LBS and stood tall at a staggering 7 foot 4 inches. After dominating overseas and a short stint in Canada, Andre made his WWWF debut in 1973. Andre went on to have an illustrious career for almost 20 years, fighting against the reigns of Hulk Hogan, Ted DiBiase, and more before retiring in the early 90’s.
“I’m really excited to watch this story come to life on the big screen,” Robin Christensen-Roussimoff said. “It’s been a labor of love for everyone involved, and we’re really looking forward to making it available to a larger audience.”
There’s no word on who’s being eyed for the role of Andre the Giant, but stay tuned as we’ll keep you updated on the film.
