Tracy Oliver is heading to Amazon. According to Variety, the Girls Trip writer has a new series on the way from Amazon Studios. Amazon reportedly ordered 10 episodes of the untitled series. Oliver will serve as a writer and executive producer on the series. Amy Poehler, Dave Becky, and Kim Lessing will also be executive producers on the show.
Oliver released a statement regarding the series order. “This series is a dream project for me. I found the perfect partners in Amy Poehler, Amazon Studios, and Universal, who have championed this project from the beginning. I can’t wait to get started and share the story of these four women navigating the complexities of adulthood through their unbreakable friendship.
Oliver’s series will follow four black women who have been friends since college at NYU. The series sounds like it will be almost an updated take on the Sex and the City formula as Variety reports the series will follow the women as “they navigate sex, relationships and chasing their dreams.”
Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television for Amazon Studios, also released a statement alongside the series announcement. “We are huge fans of Tracy and have long admired her work. She’s an incredibly talented writer and producer, and we’re thrilled to work with her on a project that reflects the kind of inclusive, joyful creative content we want to be involved with at Amazon Studios, and that our Amazon Prime Video customers want to see. We’re also so excited to be in business with Amy and Paper Kite. Jen Salke and I have known Amy for many years, and we’re so pleased to have the opportunity to work with her again.”
No title or release date for the series have been announced yet.
