Amazon’s already had a pretty impressive summer. The Boys released at the end of July to rave reviews and has already received a season two renewal. On top of that, at Comic-Con last month Amazon showed off an impressive trailer for the fourth season of The Expanse, which was picked up by the network last year after SyFy canceled it. Then, last week, Amazon announced that Viola Davis’ JuVee Productions is producing a series adaptation of last year’s sorely under-appreciated sci-fi film Fast Color for Amazon.
Before all of that though, Amazon’s got a few new series that aim to make as much of an impact as The Boys. First up, on the 9th, Free Meek hits the service. The 5-part docuseries will aim to chronicle rapper Meek Mill’s life as well as his frustrating and shockingly common quest for justice in the face of his self-professed wrongful conviction. Then closing out the month on the 30th, Amazon is releasing their new fantasy series Carnival Row.
Outside of TV shows, Amazon is also adding some interesting movies this month. Notably, last year’s critically acclaimed documentary, Andy Irons: Kissed by God will become available on the 12th. The film tells the story of the titular champion surfer and details his struggles with mental health and addiction. Another acclaimed film from last year, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, also hits the service this month on the 23rd. And, though not a ‘real’ movie, Jim Gaffigan’s first Amazon stand-up special, Jim Gaffigan: Quality Time hits the service on the 16th.
