Ohio State has landed the commitment of in-state product Alonzo Gaffney, a top 30 five-star recruit. Gaffney became a priority for Chris Holtmann and his staff when they took the job over in last June. At 6’9 Gaffney can play both forward positions but is listed as a small forward. With the way the game is played today Gaffney may be a perfect small-ball four for the Buckeyes if he can add some weight to his 185-pound frame. The Cleveland native is the kind of bouncy athlete that can thrive as a floor-spacing four-man combined with his elite length.

Chris Holtmann needs to continue to lock down in-state recruits something Thad Matta struggled with near the end of his tenure. Holtmann had a surprise season with the Buckeyes in his first year after taking over in June with no time to sign his own class. He turned Matta’s crew into a five seed and a second-round tournament appearance. Adding top talent like Gaffney will continue to be huge as he molds the Buckeyes program with his type of players.
