Saying hello can take less than a second, but saying goodbye can take a lifetime. For this reason, many people remain in relationships that have ended long before someone packs up their things and moves out of the apartment. Why? Because saying goodbye is often harder than facing the realities of a tough breakup. After all, rough split from a significant other can leave someone crying, screaming into their pillow and feeling relieved all at once. Using all of those conflicting, complicated feelings, rising singer-songwriter Ainae has crafted her emotive track, “Numb.”
“‘Numb’ is a song that brings soul, R&B and a catchy hook to a person who has gone through heartache before. I wrote this in the wake of a breakup and wanted to create a piece that I could cry to, scream in the mirror, and dance to all at the same time. I hope this song gives you room to feel,” she said about her new song.
Written and directed by the emerging act, the “Numb” video places Ainae in a tough position. Her boyfriend is clearly fed up and she has reached her limit, but she has a performance so the show must go on. Standing in front of the crowd, she sings with a level honesty that suggests she’s going through a lot and may just throw the microphone at her boyfriend as he stands in the crowd.
All in all, “Numb” is for those in the world that want to feel all of their emotions instead of running from them. The Washington, D.C. native’s authentic storytelling coupled with the raw emotion woven into her tender vocals allow for the new track to set into the listener’s heart with ease.
