ABC has confirmed that the 2022 Academy Awards will be led by a designated host. However, the network nor the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have identified who the host may be.
Regardless of who AMPAS selects to lead the ceremony, it will mark a change of pace. After Jimmy Kimmel hosted the award show in 2017 and 2018, AMPAS made the decision to lead the ceremony by committee with no designated host for three consecutive years.
The award show host will be primarily selected by the ceremony’s executive producer, Will Packer. Throughout his career, Packer has worked with a number of stars including Queen Latifah, Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart. However, he has not hinted at who he may be considering for the role.
“It might be me,” ABC Entertainment President Craig Erwich joked when asked about who the host may be.
“Will really has his pulse on popular culture and entertainment..I know he has a lot in store and we’ll have more details to share soon.”
The 94th Academy Awards are set to take place on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.
