21 Savage Expected To Be Released Ahead ICE Deportation Hearing

A celebration is certainly in order for now. Just earlier this month, the internet was shocked by the news that 21 Savage had been taken into custody by ICE for overstaying his visa. This news was met with the revelation to many that the Atlanta rapper was originally born in the United Kingdom.

Met with a mountain of support from fans and his music industry peers alike, it is been announced that 21 Savage is a free man. The rapper, who missed this year’s Grammy Awards due to his incarceration, sends a message to his fans, via his lawyers.

“21 Savage asked us to send a special message to his fans and supporters — he says that while he wasn’t present at the Grammy Awards, he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world and is more than ever, ready to be with his loved ones and continue making music that brings people together.”

As shared in the statement from his lawyers, 21 Savage, whose real name is She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has been granted an expedited hearing which will determine his fate. Still having to face the law, we’re happy to hear that the rapper’s release will be sooner than later.

UPDATE:  21 Savage’s to be released from the ICE detention center Wednesday, February 13, 2019.  A previous version reported the rapper was released immediately.
