Harkless was a restricted free agent but he did not sign an offer sheet with any other teams. Instead, he has reached an agreement on a long term deal to go back to Portland.
Harkless has only spent one season in Portland. Last year, he averaged 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in about 18 minutes of playing time.
The fourth-year pro showed promise in the postseason, perhaps ensuring that he would be back in Portland for the near future.
The Blazers have been active this offseason. They have added Evan Turner and Festus Ezeli. Additionally they have re-signed Allen Crabbe and Meyers Leonard while giving a max extension to CJ McCollum.
Portland is spending a lot of money to keep this core intact while also bringing in some help. For a team that’s probably short of contending by a fair amount, this is an interesting strategy. Nevertheless, it is a strategy that Moe Harkless will be part of for the foreseeable future.
