A ring. That is, without a doubt, the one thing Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry expressed as his lone desire heading into free agency this summer. When the All-Star point guard spoke to the media following the Cleveland Cavaliers sweep of the Raptors, Lowry made it known outright. He wants a ring. A title. A championship. He was adamant earlier in the season about opting out and he doubled down on it after his season came to an end. Now, the biggest decision of his career is before him.
But how about playing back home and maybe being a part that contends for a ring. Probably not next year or the year after but he could be the first legitimate piece in bringing success back to his hometown of Philadelphia. The 76ers are going into the offseason potentially with a ton of cap flexibility and they have to spend it somewhere. Why not on a hometown kid?
Following from Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer.
The real question is: Will Lowry, a former Cardinal Dougherty High and Villanova standout, choose to come home?
Sources have said the North Philly native has been interested in playing for the Sixers for some time. The speculation only heightened once Bryan Colangelo became the president of basketball operations in April 2016. As the Raptors general manager, Colangelo acquired Lowry in a trade from the Houston Rockets on July 11, 2012. The two have remained good friends since then.
And sources have always said that the Sixers planned to offer Lowry a lucrative contract this summer.
