Rapper Fat Joe went on ESPN’s First Take with Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman, and Molly Qerim. After performing a freestyle, he talked sports with them. Fat Joe, who is an avid New York Knicks fan and has known Knicks star Carmelo Anthony for a long time, revealed a phone conversation that he had with Melo earlier this summer:
“I’m gonna make breaking now. In all the years I’ve known Carmelo Anthony since he’s been in high school — and I hope he doesn’t beat me up — I’ve never once in my life received a phone call. I got a phone call from Carmelo Anthony, and he said ‘If there’s any year ever in your life to be a New York Knick fan, it’s this one. And go hard.'”
After being interrupted by Stephen A. Smith, Joe revealed that he received this call from Anthony while he was in Rio at the Olympics, and then continued:
“He said: ‘I promise you this is going to be an incredible year for the Knicks.'”
It seems like Derrick Rose isn’t the only Knicks player who’s extremely optimistic about this season. While Anthony didn’t use the term “Super Team,” him saying that ‘if there’s any year in your life to be a Knicks fan, it’s this one’ is very interesting, and shows a very high level of confidence. I must admit, I was quite skeptical about this Knicks team — and I still am — but the confidence coming from the team’s players is intriguing, and I’m starting to get excited to watch them.
