In a time where Major League Baseball and the entire sports world is at a halt, the New York Yankees have received some not so good news. A minor league player in the Yankees system has reportedly tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. This is the first case that was reported in Major League Baseball. Jeff Passan of ESPN reported the sour news on twitter.

The Yankees player who tested positive for coronavirus was only on the minor league side of the team’s facility in Tampa. Still, as we’re learning about coronavirus’ ability to spread, that distance alone does not necessarily protect those who are nearby from contracting it.

The way things are going around Major League Baseball, workouts that are still ongoing are likely to be halted. Major League Baseball has already come out and suspended Spring Training across the entire league, which put baseball at a standstill. The league has then come out and said that Opening Day would not take place for at least about a month after it was originally scheduled for, pushing it back farther.
In the scary side of all of this, Cincinnati Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer tried to make some light of all this by hosting a charity pickup game. Bauer streamed the mini- whiffle ball game on social media yesterday, where a few major leaguers showed up and partook in the game.
