Top Rank recently made headlines by signing all of the American boxers who competed in the 2021 Summer Olympic Games. Now, Bob Arum and his team have their eyes set on undefeated super featherweight contender Xavier Martinez. Boxing Scene has reported that Martinez plans to join Arum over at Top Rank and headline a televised card on ESPN in January against Robson Conceicao.
Martinez boasts a 17-0 record with 11 knockouts. By signing with Top Rank, he sets himself up for potential bouts against former champions like Miguel Berchelt and Jamel Herring. He could also land a fight with current super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who is also promoted by Top Rank. Not to mention, former 130-pound champion Vasyl Lomachenko, who is promoted by Top Rank, said he’d come back down to the division to fight a four-belt champion.
Before fights with Lomachenko or Stevenson are in play, Martinez must get by Conceicao on January 29 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joet Gonzalez and Adam Lopez will fight in the co-main event.
