It appears that the New York Mets have reached an agreement with free agent catcher Wilson Ramos. The contract is structured to be a two-year, $19.5 Million contract with a third-year option that would take the value to $26 million.

In the 2018 season, Ramos hit .306 with 15 home runs and 70 RBI’s for the Rays and Phillies. Ramos was an AL all-star this season and after the Rays were past a point of competition they shipped Ramos off to the Phillies. Ramos was also able to bounce back this past year and be able to turn his production around which helped him get a nice conrtact.
For the Mets, this signing means that they are out on the JT Realmuto sweepstakes and they are rolling with Ramos and Travis d’Arnaud as their catchers. They met with Grandal but liked the price of Ramos a lot better since they could not afford to lose Amed Rosario, Michael Conforto, and Brandon Nimmo in a trade for Realmuto. This is just another move that the Mets are making in their quest to be a competitor during the 2019 season. Mets traded for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz earlier this offseason as well as bringing back closer Jeurys Familia who was traded to the Athletics.
