Last year it was announced that Willy Wonka and the story of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory will be brought back to the big screen, but now we’ve got some more details. Harry Potter’s David Heyman will produce the film while Paddington’s Paul King will direct.
Heyman told collider news that the film will be a prequel about the iconic Willy Wonka.
“We are still trying to figure out how to tell that story, what the story is. It’s a prequel, it’s not a sequel. What makes Willy—when we find him at the chocolate factory doing the golden ticket, where is he before that? What leads him to that place where he’s locked himself away?… It’s how does he get there? So we’re playing around with that.”
There is also a reported shortlist of desired actors to reprise the role of Wonka. A list that includes Donald Glover and Ryan Gosling. Now King isn’t officially signed on to direct the film and with him expected to direct the Pinocchio adaptation for Disney, he wouldn’t be available for another year or so. The studio hasn’t placed a release date on the film yet but it looks like Heyman wants to get this show on the road.
