With the home stretch of the NBA regular season just around the corner, the title favorite Golden State Warriors are on the verge of making a move that bolsters an already loaded roster.
According to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, the Warriors plan on signing free agent center Andrew Bogut for their upcoming playoff push.
The Golden State Warriors intend to sign center Andrew Bogut for the remainder of the season after he receives his letter of clearance from the Sydney Kings of Australia’s National Basketball League, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The clearing process is expected to take about 48 hours, sources said.
As the report clarified, Andrew Bogut currently just finished up a season where he played at a high level for the Sydney Kings in Australia’s National Basketball League. In fact, Bogut was able to secure league MVP this past season with per-game averages of 11.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and a league-leading 2.7 blocks per game.
The connection here is clear, as Bogut and the Warriors are very familiar with each other. Bogut played for the Warriors during a four-year period spanning from 2012 to 2016, including two NBA Finals appearances. The Australian 7-footer served as an anchor on the interior for Golden State and though he won’t provide that same offensive productivity, he should be able to replicate some of his impact from years past defensively.
Bogut is an intimidating presence in the lane on defense and could certainly stabilize a vulnerable second unit for the Warriors. Especially considering starter DeMarcus Cousins’ recent injury history, Bogut could prove to be an invaluable piece in another playoff run for Golden State.
