The year was 2012. Barack Obama had just won his second presidential election, The Avengers had just finished its run in theaters and the LeBron James had just captured his first NBA title. In midst of all that had taken place in politics, sports and film, it was a particularly good year for Rap and R&B. Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange, G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Summer, Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream and Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.a.a.d City had dropped. Capping off the year, an important mixtape had dropped, Wale’s Folarin.
Folarin is one of the Washington, D.C. native’s most complete bodies of work. From top to bottom, he showcased his ability to deliver softer records, display his lyricism and putting together a banger when needed. One of the strongest records on the project was “Bad” with Tiara Thomas. It helped propel the solo career of the talented Tiara Thomas whole also giving Wale one of his biggest hits. Rick Ross, Nipsey Hussle, Chinx, French Montana, Scarface, Hit-Boy and French Montana also appeared on the project.
Nearly a decade after dropping Folarin, Wale is preparing to deliver its sequel. Just last week, he delivered “Angels” with Chris Brown. Now, he’s here to offer a few more details about the project.
“I understand you may feel how you feel for whatever somebody told you, but I just want to reiterate that I’m one of the greatest of all time. Catalog.Consistency. Influence. Longevity. DMV. With that said, Folarin II [drops this] summer,” he tweeted.
Shortly after teasing his next release, he delivered the video for “Angels” with Chris Brown. Check it out below.
