Viola Davis is making the transition from general in The Woman King to U.S. President in the upcoming film from Amazon Studios, G20. A recent report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Davis has been cast as the lead in a new film at Amazon Studios and MRC from director Patricia Riggen and writers Noah and Logan Miller called G20.
“[The film] is set at the G20 Summit, which is overtaken by terrorists. Davis is playing the American president, named Taylor Sutton, who must bring all her statecraft and military experience to bear to defend her family, her fellow leaders, and, of course, the world,” the report explains.
Viola Davis has remained active throughout 2022. Not only did she appear in The Woman King, but she also appeared in the newly released superhero film, Black Adam. Beyond her feature film work, Davis also stars in HBO Max’s Peacemaker.
“Viola is truly a one-of-a-kind talent both in front of and behind the camera, and we can’t wait to watch her bring the dynamic character that is President Sutton to life,” Julie Rappaport of Amazon Studios told THR.
“Viola bringing her unmatched strength, depth and humor to this kind of fun, popcorn movie is something we cannot wait to see,” Brye Adler of MRC added.
G20, starring Viola Davis, remains in its early stages, but will premiere on Amazon Studios when it is completed.
