Former President Donald Trump has reportedly made plans to sit with former Fox News Host Tucker Carlson for an interview instead of participating in the GOP-sponsored debate for presidential candidates next week.
Despite reports from The New York Times regarding the interview, sources close to the former President told The Hill that they “hadn’t confirmed anything” and warned members of the media against “getting too far ahead” in their reports. Meanwhile, those close to Carlson tell NBC News that he is always “always in discussions” with presidential candidates.
Broadcasted by Fox News, the first meeting of presidential candidates across the Republican Party is set to take place on August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While it is expected that other candidates like South Carolina Senator Tim Scott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will be in attendance, Trump has reportedly wavered in his decision to participate in the event.
“He is not going to debate unless he’s forced to by changing polling,” one source told NBC News earlier this year.
“He shops opinions with everyone and will get, like, 100 different opinions…He wants to know what everyone thinks but will ultimately do what he wants to do. In general, he is asking everyone, from the bellman to [RNC Chair] Ronna McDaniel,” another source told the outlet.
Regardless of whether he elects to participate in the debate or not, all reports suggest the President will turn himself in to Fulton County authorities at some time this week. The former President has be charged with several state crimes after being accused of attempting to overturn the results of the last presidential election.
