President Donald Trump has taken aim at yet another health official during the COVID-19 pandemic. During a call with campaign staffers, the President referred to Fauci as a “disaster” and an idiot.
“People are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots, these people, these people that have gotten it wrong. Fauci is a nice guy, he’s been here for 500 years, he called every one of them wrong,” he said.
“Every time he goes on television there’s always a bomb. But there is a bigger bomb if you fire him. But Fauci is a disaster. I mean, this guy, if I listened to him, we would have 500,000 deaths.”
Also, the President mentioned that he felt the public was “tired” of the pandemic. He noted that his rallies were as big as they’d ever been, which is not factually correct.
“People are tired of Covid. have the biggest rallies I’ve ever had, and we have Covid,” he added.
During a radio interview with a southern California station, Dr. Anthony Fauci declined to comment on Trump’s recent remarks.
“I would prefer not to comment on that and just get on with what we are really trying to do and what we are trying to do is to protect the health and welfare and safety of the American people predominantly, and ultimately, of the world,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said.
“[Addressing the virus is] the only thing I really care about. That other stuff, it’s like in ‘The Godfather’: Nothing personal, strictly business as far as I’m concerned. I just want to do my job and take care of the people of this country.”
