Tonight, theme of the 94th Academy Awards is breaking down barriers and pushing forward. To open the show, first-time Academy Award nominee Beyoncé performed “Be Alive” with support from her daughter, Blue Ivy. Not long thereafter, Ariana DeBose celebrated her victory in the “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” category. She is the first openly queer actress of color to ever win the award. Now, all eyes are on Troy Kostur.
Troy Kostur has won the award for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” at the 94th Academy Awards for his role in CODA. With this victory, he becomes the second deaf actor in history to walk away with an Academy Award in an acting category. However, this is not the first time that Kostur has made history. Just a few weeks ago, he became the first deaf actor to win a major award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Kostur’s night isn’t done just yet. Alongside his CODA co-stars, he will wait to see if his latest film can bring home the night’s biggest award, “Best Picture.”
So happy to see Troy Kostur win the #AcademyAwards for Best Supporting Actor! Well-deserved, and terrific performance. If you haven't seen it, go watch #CODA! pic.twitter.com/usOtTyJMED
