After years of functioning without a formal deal, Triller has put together a deal with the National Music Publishers’ Association. This deal will properly compensate musicians and songwriters for songs used on the platform. Initial reports indicate that the deal will closely model that of TikTok’s agreement with the NPMA.
“NMPA is pleased to have come to an agreement with Triller to account for the past use of songs as well as a forward-looking license for our eligible independent publisher members,” NPMA CEO David Israelite told Variety.
“Music is foundational to Triller’s platform and it is essential that the songwriters who create that music are paid for their contributions to the Triller experience. Music and video offer limitless potential to social media platforms, however compensating songwriters must be a primary consideration, not an afterthought.”
This deal adds to Triller’s rapid expansion over the last few weeks. The brand has put together a music lineup and fight card for April 17 starring Ben Askren and Jake Paul. Not to mention, Triller recently inked a deal with Verzuz. Swizz Beatz and Timbaland hosted the first battle of their deal just last week. In the coming months, the app will look to move further into live events and productions.
