Mike Tyson is entering a new phase of his career and it may be just as exciting as his earlier phases. The former heavyweight champion hosts his own podcast, boxes part-time and is a regular at ringside. More recently, ABC profiled Tyson in a new documentary called The Knockout and Jamie Foxx is playing Tyson in the Amazon project. Now, Hulu is getting into the Tyson business.
Hulu has reportedly found the lead for its upcoming series called Iron Mike. Trevante Rhodes of Moonlight and Queen Sugar fame will portray the New York native in the new series. He is the first major casting in the eight-episode series.
Unfortunately, Tyson and Hulu are at odds over the show’s development. The two sides were reportedly discussing the project, but could not come to an agreement. Afterward, Tyson moved on to work with Foxx and denounced Hulu’s decision to move forward on the series without his consent.
“Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising,” Tyson wrote on Instagram.
“This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.”
At this time, there is no word as to when the series will hit Hulu.
