Head Coach Travis Steele and the Xavier Musketeers have mutually agreed to part ways after four seasons. Steele has been with the Xavier Musketeers as an assistant, associate, or head coach since 2009. He worked under former Head Coach Chris Mack until he took the open head coaching job with the Louisville Cardinals. The Xavier program then decided to promote Steele to the role of Head Coach. That decision has proved to be somewhat ineffective in the four years he’s led the team.

In his four seasons as the Head Coach of the Xavier Musketeers, Travis Steele led the team to an overall record of 70-50 with an overall Big East Conference record of 31-37. The team did not make the NCAA Tournament in that time but did make the NIT Tournament twice. In his first season the team was eliminated in the second round and this season they have won their first-round game, but now their future is unclear. Steele will not coach the remaining games in the NIT Tournament.
Travis Steele out at Xavier, per @RickBroering. Speculation had been building heavily over the last few hours. The name to watch will likely be Sean Miller. https://t.co/vbxnejwvfI

Speculation and rumors aren’t always worth much during this period of NCAA basketball, but Sean Miller could make a return to the Xavier Musketeers where he saw so much success. In just five seasons he won the regular-season title three times and the conference tournament once. He also led the program to the NCAA Tournament four times including an Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen exit.
