Daystar “Tory Lanez” Peterson has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
Peterson rose to prominence in the United States during the summer of 2016 with his breakout single, “Say It.” The Brownstone-inspired track paved the way for the singer to work alongside the likes of Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, Bryson Tiller and many others. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, his star was seemingly on the rise thanks to the release of two new projects and the virality of his Quarantine Radio series.
The trajectory of Peterson’s career changed drastically on the night of July 12, 2020. The singer attended a gathering that reportedly consisted of Kylie Jenner, Megan “Meg Thee Stallion” Pete and Kelsey Nicole Harris in an outdoor pool setting in California. Once the gathering came to an abrupt ending, Harris, Pete and Peterson reportedly went back to their vehicles and an argument ensued. Ultimately, the argument escalated, Meg Thee Stallion was shot, police were called to the scene and the story began to spread across the internet.
In the days following the incident, many began to ask, “Who shot Megan Thee Stallion?” As authorities looked into the matter further, Tory Lanez became the subject of the investigation and was met with the following charges: carrying an unregistered firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
“We are confident that at the conclusion of this trial the truth will come out and Mr. Peterson will be exonerated of all charges,” Tory Lanez’s attorney, Sarkis Manukyan, said in December.
In mid-December, Peterson stood trial and was convicted of all three felonies. Immediately after the trial, he was taken into custody as his legal team attempted to overturn the ruling. Despite their efforts, the singer returned to court on August 7 to receive his sentence. Prosecutors requested a sentence of 13 years, but the judge elected to give him a sentence of ten years.
Just in: Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
