If you’ve seen a bunch of photos of Tom Hanks in colorful sweaters, smiling, happily, in front of a trailer in Hollywood, it’s because he’s filming a movie. No, the movie isn’t about a jolly Tom Hanks, but it’s about Fred Rogers, the beloved TV personality.
Now the Mr. Rogers film finally has a title: ‘A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood’. The Hanks starring movie is directed by Marielle Heller (‘Diary of a Teenage Girl’) and includes the likes of Matthew Rhys, Chris Cooper, Tammy Blanchard, and Sakina Jaffrey in its cast. This film will release in fall of 2019.
Per Variety:
The film is inspired by a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers, star of the long-running “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” and award-winning journalist Tom Junod. It tells of a cynical journalist who begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.
Hanks will be busy next year with ‘Toy Story 4’ and ‘Greyhound’, but with the number of photos we’ve seen from him and this movie, you could imagine it’s a priority for him.
