“You saved Hollywood’s ass, and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” critically acclaimed director Steve Spielberg told Tom Cruise as he raved about Top Gun: Maverick.
Well, it appears that Tom Cruise has an idea of who might save “Hollywood’s ass” next. According to a report from Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise is ecstatic about the upcoming film, The Flash. Kit’s report indicates that Cruise was able to view an early copy of the film at his home and raved about it. After watching it for the first time, the legendary movie star allegedly said something to the effect of The Flash being “everything you want in a movie” and it “is the kind of movie we need now.”
Cruise’s reported reaction to the film is not entirely dissimilar to others who have reportedly seen the film. According to Jordan Ruimy of World of Reel, the film earned the highest test-score ratings in DCEU history.
“I will say here that Flash is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” James Gunn of DC Studios said.
The film may have received rave reviews from some, but it has drawn criticism from others. In recent years, the film’s leading star, Ezra Miller, has been in the headlines for several different matters. Nearly three years ago, a video appeared to show Miller choking a woman outside of a bar in Iceland. Almost two years later, the Hollywood star was hit with disorderly conduct and cited for obstructing a highway in Hawaii. Not to be forgotten, Miller has been accused of harassing a woman in Germany, grooming minors and leading a cult.
“I’m gonna be real, the stuff that’s happening with Ezra Miller is, to me, a microcosm of Hollywood. There’s this person who’s a repeat offender, who’s been behaving atrociously, and as opposed to shutting them down and shutting the production down, there’s an effort to save the movie and them,” Issa Rae said during an interview with Elle.
Despite the allegations surrounding Miller, DC Studios has decided to move forward with the film and has plans to release it in the coming months.
