The cast of MGM’s developing, youth football comedy, The Underdoggs, continues to add stars. Led by Snoop Dogg, the cast has reportedly added Tika Sumpter, Mike Epps, George Lopez and Andrew Schulz. The cast of youth football actors will reportedly include Jonigan Booth, Adan James Carrillo, Kylah Davila, Caleb Dixon, Alexander Michael Gordon and Shamori Washington.
MGM has also constructed the team that will lead The Underdoggs behind the camera. Charles Stone will direct the film while Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis write the script. Kenya Barris, Jonathan Glickman and Mychelle Deschamps will serve as producers.
“Billed as The Bad News Bears in the world of Youth Football, The Underdoggs tells the story of Jaycen Jenning, a former NFL superstar who, after a run-in with the law, agrees to coach a youth football team in lieu of prison in the hopes of relaunching his fledgling career,” the film’s synopsis reads, according to Deadline.
The film is set to begin production this fall. MGM and company aim to release the comedy in theaters in October 2023.
