Lin-Manuel Miranda is gearing up to direct his first film in Tick, Tick… BOOM! And, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that film has started attracting some pretty big names. Andrew Garfield was previously confirmed to be starring but now, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, and Robin de Jesus will also be appearing alongside him.
The film, which will drop exclusively on Netflix, is an adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical of the same name. Both the film and the stage production follow Jon in 1990 as he contemplates the future of his career while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Miranda actually starred in a production of the play back in 2014 before becoming an international sensation with Hamilton. Along with directing, he will also be producing the film with Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Julie Oh.
Miranda has been extremely busy recently. He served as an executive producer on FX’s Emmy Award-winning series Fosse/Verdon. He also produced the film adaptation of In the Heights, which completed production late in the summer. Miranda is also working on an adaptation of Kingkiller Chronicles and starring in HBO’s series adaptation of His Dark Materials.
Tick, Tick… BOOM! has yet to receive a release date. But, it’s expected to begin production sometime next year.
