USA has officially picked up The Sinner for a third season at the network, according to Variety. The announcement also brought the news that Matt Bomer is set to join the series as a regular in season three.
Bomer will star opposite Bill Pullman as Jaime, a man distraught after an accident who turns to Pullman’s Detective Harry Ambrose for support. The new season will follow Ambrose as he investigates a seemingly normal car accident in upstate New York. However, things aren’t quite what they seem as Ambrose is pulled into a dangerous, deadly saga as he faces the most disturbing case of his career.
The Sinner proved a surprise hit for USA upon its 2017 release. The first season was cable’s #1 new series and earned an Emmy nomination alongside two Golden Globe nominations. The series’ second outing was equally well received as it currently sits at a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Showrunner Derek Simonds is set to return for the show’s third season. He will also executive produce alongside Adam Bernstein, Jessica Biel, Charlie Gogolak, Michelle Purple, and Willie Reale. Bernstein is set to direct the first two episodes of season three.
The Sinner‘s third season has yet to receive a premiere date.
