The Ringer and Gimlet Media have taken a major step forward in building a relationship with their new parent company, Spotify. Unions at the two companies have finalized collective bargaining agreements.
With 65 bargaining unit members, The Ringer has finalized an agreement that will provide minimum salaries of approximately $57,000 per year with opportunities for overtime. At Gimlet Media, the four dozen bargaining unit members have established a minimum salary of $73,000 per year for associate producers. Also, there are stricter restrictions for using outside contractors and a guaranteed raise of at least 2% per year.
“We began this process with the aim of improving working conditions and compensation at the company, especially for our lowest-paid members. We’re thrilled to have achieved that goal with this contract,” the Ringer Bargaining Committee stated.
“Our union began as an effort to improve diversity, pay equity, and pathways to promotion at Gimlet. We are proud that this first contract includes provisions that takes steps forward on all of these issues. We also look forward to maintaining more open discussions with management to ensure that we continue to make progress on all these fronts, and more,” the Gimlet Bargaining Committee added.
The collective bargaining agreement also creates senior titles within the two companies and allows for 11 weeks of severance pay. However, there are no major changes to Spotify benefits during the life of the contract.
