The Marvels will reportedly document its four-week run in theaters as the lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). During its first month on the big screen, the Brie Larson-led MCU product generated $80 million at the box office in North America and $197 million globally.
The film picked up $46 million in its debut weekend, ranking last among MCU opening weekends. One week later, ticket sales for the Brie Larson and Teyonah Paris-led feature film reportedly decreased by nearly 80%. In its most recent outing, the film generated $2.4 million and finished 11th at the box office. The Marvels will remain in theaters through the remainder of the month, but Marvel does not expect it to generate major revenue moving forward.
“With ‘The Marvels’ box office now winding down, we will stop weekend reporting of international/global grosses on this title,” Marvel told Variety.
Marvel will attempt to rebound from the box office let down with a number of releases next year, including Kraven The Hunter, Venom III, Deadpool III and Madame Web. Not to be forgotten, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is expected to arrive in theaters in 2024.
