The Kid Mero and Desus Nice have reportedly called it quits after a lengthy run that stretched from Complex to Showtime. Along the way, the Bronx-bred duo has interviewed the likes of Denzel Washington, Derek Jeter and former President Barack Obama. In addition, they appeared on several other late-night talk show hosts while recording their podcast at Red Bull Studios and releasing a book together. While they may not have won dozens of Emmy Awards, the duo’s run was undeniable and legendary.
“Desus Nice and The Kid Mero will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward. Showtime’s late-night talk show Desus & Mero will not be returning for a fifth season,” a spokesperson for Showtime told Variety.
“They have been brilliant hosts, and we wish them the best, along with the team at JAX Media and the incredible crew.”
As news of the comedic duo’s split spread around the internet, the two stars have remained relatively quiet. Then, The Kid Mero addressed the duo’s split in brevity during a recent appearance on WFAN with Keith McPherson.
“It’s a natural progression. Do you know what I mean? It’s like we said on the podcast. It’s Hollywood baby,” The Kid Mero told McPherson.
“You develop strengths and identify things you want to explore and do. Do you know what I mean? Things just come through naturally. Things just happen naturally. It’s also like Spike Jones said on the Viceland show. Everything is finite. Don’t be…what’s the corny cliché? Don’t be sad that it’s gone. Be happy that you experienced it.”
While each member of the late-night duo will go their separate way, it doesn’t appear that The Kid Mero is opposed to working with Desus Nice in the future.
“Everybody grows. I’m sure that D has things that he wants to do. I’ve got things that I want to do. Do you know what I mean? And these things that we want to do are very specific to us. We’ve been a duo for a long time. I love everything that he’s done and it’s just natural [for us to split]. You know what I mean? I’ve got my life. I’ve got my worldview and my things going on. And he has his. So, it’s only right,” he continued.
“Instead of staying and saying that we’re only going to do this one thing, let’s explore. Let’s breakout. Let’s see what we do as individuals and form like Voltron later on.”
