DC’s had a rough few years, to put it mildly. Batman V. Superman was… not great and Justice League was somehow worse. Wonder Woman was decent but predictable and not quite what the studio needed to save their image entirely. However, Aquaman and Shazam! have righted the ship and DC is now poised to make a real run at Marvel’s empire. The first step in their plan? Finally, get that solo Flash film off the ground.
The Flash, like the DCEU as a whole, has had a tough time getting off the ground. Multiple director changes caused the film to get bumped back repeatedly until it was all but put on hold while DC got it together. Now, with their ducks lining up nicely, DC is returning to the Fastest Man Alive.
And they’re returning with some heavy-hitters. It and It: Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti is reportedly in talks to direct the film. His sister and frequent business partner, Barbara Muschietti would serve as a producer on the film. DC is also eyeing writer Christina Hodson to pen the script. Hodson wrote last year’s underrated Bumblebee and DC’s upcoming Birds of Prey film.
The Flash has long been rumored for a 2020 release date but, with the production setbacks, that’s all but impossible now. It honestly may be some time before we even know when we’ll see Barry Allen on the big screen again since no deals are in place yet with Muschietti or Hodson. But, I wouldn’t expect to the Scarlett Speedster again until at least early 2022.
