Once again, Teofimo Lopez has proven that college football standouts aren’t the only athletes making their presence felt on the night the Heisman Memorial Trophy is presented. In December 2018, Teofimo Lopez delivered a showstopping moment just like Kyler Murray. One year later, he was smooth like Joe Burrow as he captured his first world title. Tonight, he added to his Heisman night resume with a competitive performance against Sandor Martin in Madison Square Garden.
“Many men, wish death upon me/Blood in my eye dawg and I can’t see/I’m trying to be what I’m destined to be,” the sounds of 50 Cent’s hit track blasted through the speakers as the New York native made his way to the ring.
Much like 50 Cent, he managed to overcome the threats his opponent presented and make his way to victory. However, the path wasn’t easy. Throughout the ten-round bout, Martin caught the New York native rushing in with his hands down. Martin also appeared to frustrate the lightweight contender with his footwork. On the other end, Lopez was able to land several power shots, but there were several periods in time when there were lapses in action. In the end, the judges delivered the following scores: 95-94 for Martin, 96-93 for Lopez and 97-92 for Lopez.
