Former President Barack Obama formally departed the White House more than four years ago. However, the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obama Care, continues to be a polarizing matter within the Republican Party. In fact, two Republican groups have worked their way up to the U.S. Supreme Court in an effort to strike down the act. Despite their efforts, neither lawsuit has earned them a victory in the U.S. Supreme Court.
For a third time, GOP challengers have worked their way up to the Supreme Court in an effort to strike down the Affordable Care Act. Much like the two previous efforts, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act with a 7-2 vote.
In a series of tweets, the bill’s architect, Barack Obama, issued a series of tweets thanking the Supreme Court for its decision.
Today, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. Again. This ruling reaffirms what we have long known to be true: the Affordable Care Act is here to stay,” he tweeted.
“The principle of universal coverage has been established, and 31 million people now have access to care through the law we passed—with millions more who can no longer be denied coverage or charged more because of a preexisting condition.”
