Nearly one year ago, Invincible popped up on Amazon Prime and slowly became one of the most well-regarded series of any kind throughout the year. As the show’s one-year anniversary nears, many fans are left wondering when season two will arrive. During an interview with Collider, actor Steven Yeun, who plays Mark Grayson, revealed that he had not worked on season two of the show just yet.
“We haven’t started. I know we’re starting at some point soon. I’ve talked to Robert [Kirkman], here and there. He’s super excited about it. He thinks Season 2 is gonna be even better than Season 1, which I have no doubt about. If you go to his source material, Invincible is an incredible comic, and just thinking about how much story hasn’t been told from that run, it’s gonna be bonkers,” Yeun said in early January.
“I’m really excited about it.”
While it may be hard to hear for many fans, there are a number of reasons why Yeun may not have worked on season two of Invincible just yet. Most notably, he is working on Jordan Peele’s upcoming film, Nope. He also appeared in Stephen Karam’s directorial debut, The Humans, last year. Not to mention, Invincible creator Richard Kirkman was recently hit with a lawsuit by comic book illustrator William Crabtree. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crabtree says he co-created Invincible with Kirkman and worked on the first 50 issues of the comic. Along their rise to success, Crabtree alleges that Kirkman convinced him to sell his ownership stake in the comic under the guise that it would be easier to sell an animated series to studios with him leading the way. Now, Crabtree alleges that Kirkman owes him a cut of the show’s profits.
“Fraud and deceit has become a standard business practice for Kirkman and is apparently where his true creative aptitude lies,” attorney Devin McRae stated.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, conflicting schedules and a lawsuit, it’s truly unclear as to when the series will return to Amazon Prime.
