Following the announcement of the verdict, the Floyd family issued a public statement. Joined by attorney Ben Crump, the Floyds relative spoke about the trial, their journey and what comes next. Regardless of what took place in court, George Floyd will not return home to his family and that will stick with this family for years to come.
“I was just praying they would find him guilty,” Floyd’s brother, Philonise, said as he walked out of the courtroom today.
“As an African American, we usually never get justice.”
Members of the Floyd family were joined by state prosecutors and attorney Ben Crump after they learned of the verdict. The group held a formal press conference later in the day.
“America, let’s lean into this moment and let’s make sure that this moment will be documented for our children yet unborn. As they continue on the journey to justice, knowing that the blood of George Floyd will give them a trail to find a way to a better America,” Crump said.
