New York is well-known across the globe for its drama-filled broadway shows. “Lion King”, “Chicago”, “Cats”, and now, the New York Knicks. The Knicks have been a part of such drama over the last few weeks New Yorkers don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to get their fix, they can just open up Twitter.
To recap the Knicks off broadway sideshow; they have kicked Charles Oakley out of their stadium, embarrassingly lost to the Lakers, publicly shopped Carmelo Anthony, had a player not show up for a game without any heads up and had their president of basketball operations openly criticize their star player, multiple times! Longtime Knicks super fan, Spike Lee, is over it. When asked by ESPN’s Steve Zeng whether he would choose Carmelo or Phil Jackson, Lee “didn’t hesitate”
“I’ll pack Phil’s bags for him”
“I think I still believe in Carmelo, but Phil Jackson is making it very difficult for him,”
Spike Lee has been a part of many dramatic moments in the NBA. This time, he is picking a side and he is not ready to give up on Carmelo Anthony just yet. Phil Jackson has brought tons of controversy to a franchise already prone to it. So, Spike might be right, it may be time for the Knicks to move on.
