The past couple of days since the first trailer for Spike Lee’s ‘Chi-Raq‘ dropped, he has been receiving a lot of negative responses from rappers who are Chicago natives. Rhymefest being the most vocal on the situation feels like Spike is exploiting poor people. He feels Lee owes an apology for more importantly having humor in the film which he is making light of the serious issues going on in the city of Chicago.
Well in response, Spike released a video addressing that there is a misunderstanding with his satire and there is a difference between humor and comedy. He goes into saying,
“In no way, shape, or form are we not respectful of the situation that is happening in Chi-Raq. In no way, shape, or form are we making light of the lives that have been murdered with this senseless violence. So, people, don’t get it twisted.”
After responding, Spike Lee then issues a new trailer for the film in which he shows the serious side in an attempt to bring awareness to the importance that he believes the film portrays.
What do you guys think? ‘Chi-Raq’ will be in theaters December 4th.
