After Madison Square Garden security escorted Charles Oakley out of a recent Knicks’ game and his reputation was laid on the line in a controversial statement, many people came out in support of the former New York legend.
Among those supporters was director and Knicks’ super fan Spike Lee. Lee appeared at the next game, a win over the San Antonio Spurs, wearing an old Oakley jersey to show his support for the man who had suddenly become James Dolan’s mortal enemy. It was a great symbolic gesture from the person perhaps most affiliated with the Knicks.
“I got every jersey, game-worn, but I couldn’t find an Oakley jersey. But I had three Landry Fields jerseys. So I took it to my guy, and he hooked it up. So officially, this is a Landry Fields jersey.”
I mean it is only right to honor one Knicks legend by wearing the jersey of another, right?
Fortunately, it appears as though things are calming down between Oakley and Dolan. So, Spike Lee should be able to go back to wearing the unaltered Landry Fields jerseys like a real one.
