On Saturday, July 29, unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. and WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford will meet at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. One man will walk away with their first professional loss. One man will walk away as the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. Regardless of what takes place in the first fight, two men are expected to return for a rematch later this year. When the rematch does happen, Spence Jr. believes it should be held at a different weight class.
“I would want it at 154,” Spence Jr. said.
“I’ve outgrown 147.”
Spence Jr. has spent the entirety of his 11-year pro career in the 147-pound division. As he nears the biggest fight of his pro career, it is becoming more difficult to make weight.
“It’s been kinda hard,” Spence Jr. explained.
“I’ve got a nutritionist and a dietician to make sure I’m eating the right foods and make sure I’m good. But it’s definitely hard. It’s definitely a struggle. It’s always hard, but yeah, this is the last time, definitely. I’m a lot older. I’m not as young as I used to be, so you know, you can’t be puttin’ your body through that much to fight.”
