No active show has produced more emerging musical talent than Bel-Air. Of course, there’s GRAMMY Award winner Coco Jones playing the role of Hilary Banks, but there’s a bit more there than some may realize. Whether its Jazlyn Martin playing the role of Jackie by day and dropping Identity Crisis by night or Jabari Banks stepping away from the basketball court to deliver “Weekend Drive,” the cast has consistently produced vibrant, soulful records and projects that speak to the minds and hearts of the modern music connoisseur. Now, Simone Joy Jones, who portrays Lisa on Bel-Air, is adding to the show’s growing discography.
Setting the tone for the fall soundscape, S!MONE has delivered “Short Notice,” an upbeat, light-hearted single about finding a special person that you just can’t say no to. It may be too late in the year to play this at a cookout on the East Coast, but it does have an energetic feel that is perfect for a windows-down, bright Sunday afternoon drive as the leaves fall to the ground.
“The inspiration behind ‘Short Notice’ is the person you always say yes to. They don’t need to do as much as others to keep your attention—whether it’s earned or not. I hope it makes people dance,” she said about her latest single.
“I come from a Zydeco two-step background, so I want it to be played at cookouts and enjoyed during car rides. It’s a little campy and cute, so hopefully, it brings some giggles.”
“Short Notice” sets the tone for S!MONE’s debut album, Magnet, set for release on Friday, November 1. The forthcoming project speaks to her “experiences authentically enough so that people relate” or potentially “judge” her.
