According to Variety, Shout! Studios has picked up the global distribution rights to Standing Up, Falling Down.
Starring Billy Crystal and Ben Schwartz, the film follows Schwartz’ Scott as he moves home to Long Island after a failed stand-up career in Los Angeles. Listless, Scott goes through the motions, still hoping to get back with his ex Becky, although she’s moved on married an old friend of theirs. While searching for a purpose, Scott meets an older eccentric dermatologist played by Crystal named Marty. A recovering alcoholic with regrets of his own, Marty and Scott find an odd kinship as they try to get their lives back on track.
Crystal and Schwartz are, interestingly both lined up to play CGI characters next. Schwartz is lending his voice to the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Originally set to release on November 18th of this year, the film was recently pushed back to allow for a character redesign after fan backlash to the first trailer. It now hits theaters on February 14th, 2020. Meanwhile, Billy Crystal is set to reprise his role as Mike Wazowski in Monsters at Work, an upcoming Disney+ series and follow-up to 2001’s Monsters Inc..
Standing Up, Falling Down premiered earlier this year at Tribeca and is slated for a wide release sometime next year.
